Grade 4-6-- Enter the imitation Hardy Boys of the 1990s in this first of what will probably be many books using the names of The New Kids On The Block. The Kids return to Boston after a long road trip and give a performance to raise funds for a block party benefit, to be used for a new drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Soon after their return, strange things begin to happen. Merchandise and food are ordered and charged to them, so The Kids begin sleuthing to find out who is doing it, and why. There is no real credible action, nor characters. The dialogue is stilted and the situations unbelievable. Obviously intended to cash in on the group's popularity, the book has one redeeming feature--a list of phone numbers and addresses for agencies dealing with alcohol and drug abuse. --Kenneth E.
