The layer of ozone that shields the earth from the sun's ultraviolet radiation is being depleted. The culprits are chlorofluorocarbons and other manmade materials. Though this problem has been discussed in newspapers and magazines, few up-to-date books are available for the layperson. This book by the author of In Search of the Big Bang , in a sense a sequel to Lydia Dotto and Harold Schiff's Ozone War ( LJ 9/15/78), describes how various substances affect the ozone and how the effects were discovered.
