It is the dawn of a new era of peace and global cooperation. For the first time ever, the leader of the People's Republic of China has agreed to join the President of the United States and the heads of the most powerful nations on Earth at the upcoming G-7 summit to be held in the mid Atlantic aboard the most majestic ocean liner afloat: the Queen Elizabeth II.

But there are others who view the momentous gathering as a betrayal of monumental proportions. A group of ultra-nationalist Chinese terrorists, concerned the summit will make their Asian homeland a pawn of the Western imperialist powers, has hijacked the Han-class nuclear submarine Lijiang and set a course to intercept the Queen in the North Atlantic. Meanwhile, another group of terrorists has infiltrated the ship and at its most hopeful moment strikes quickly and efficiently, gaining possession of the codes to China's awesome nuclear arsenal. In a terrifying instant, a small, deadly group of fanatics has taken control of the ship and the summit. And now they hold the world and its leaders hostage.

With a planet on the brink of the Apocalypse and a guardian American sub under attack from a fierce and powerful underwater aggressor, the future has suddenly been placed in the hands of two American brothers working in the service of their country: Special Agent Vincent Kellogg of the Secret Service, standing courageously at the side of his captive Commander-in-Chief, and the BATF's, Thomas Kellogg investigating the threat to the summit stateside--one already directly in harm's way, the other racing relentlessly toward it. Rescue may be impossible, but the alternative is unthinkable. Because failure will mean the end of everything.

About the Author:
Richard P. Henrick is a novelist and screenwriter, the author of seventeen previous books. A recognized master of submarine adventure, he wrote the original story for the blockbuster movie Crimson Tide, starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman, and wrote the bestselling novel of the same name which accompanied the film's release. Mr. Henrick is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, where he still lives and works.
From AudioFile:
A historic summit meeting among the G-7 countries, including, for the first time, the People's Republic of China, will be held aboard the majestic QE2; that is, if a terrorist attack by hard-line Maoists can be thwarted. Filled with heroes and villains, action and romance, this thriller also offers plenty of military detail to satisfy those who prefer this genre. Prichard's tempo enables the listener to follow the complex plot with ease. For the most part, he narrates with little vocal differentiation; but when he attempts to voice British and Scots characters, he's not very successful. He neither gets the accents right nor is able to sustain them. Nonetheless, his precise diction and low-key style are perfectly suited to the tension-filled story. S.S.R.
