Writing in dialog form, Golan analyzes American-Jewish fund-raising for Israel in the context of Jewish life in the United States and the influence that American Jewry expects to have on Israeli policy and government. In passionate, emotional language, he describes the burdens that Israelis bear--the need to send their children into battle, the constant threat of annihilation, and the problems of slow economic growth. He claims that Reform and Conservative Jewry have an easy life in the United States and that being a Jewish leader here is a status symbol.
