London; Thames and Hudson, 1977. 26x20 cm. 240 pp. Illustrated. Publisher's cloth with printed dustjacket. The jacket is slightly creased at head of spine and top corners, which are slightly bumped, otherwise fine. "Angkor, Crac des Chevaliers, Tintern Abbey, Persepolis, Coan, Troy. magical ruins, which have cast their spell over some of the greatest writers in the English language. In our time, Rose Macaulay, the sensitive, witty, and astringent English novelist, was possessed by them and impelled to record ther mysterious attraction in the evocative, romantic, yet precisely informed prose of Please of Ruin. Her book enchanted one man above all, Roloff Beny, the artist and supreme poet of the camera." (front flap). From the library of Swedish Professor of Art Sten Åke Nilsson.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. 286 pages, 160 photogravure & 12 tipped in colour illustrations. A good plus hardback with decorated boards (first elephant edition). Dust Jacket has several repairs and some loss at the spine. We will send it with the book, but it's so poor that it is better to leave it off altogether. Book itself is fine internally but has scuffs to the top and base of the spine. This has made no effect to how well bound, square and tight the book still is. Our price for this First Edition is well below other sellers, although the faults to the book really are minor, so you should be pleased if you make a purchase.
