He arrived at St.Ives in 1923, just when Hamada was preparing to return to Japan. After three years apprenticeship with Leach he went to Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, later to Africa and then back to Wenford Bridge pottery in Cornwall. The book includes an essay entitled "The Fatal Impact" by Cardew.
