Book First Edition
Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Janet Anderson (illustrator). First/1st. An entertaining account of New York publishing during the tumultuous 1920s. Churchill writes in his usual "spritely" style about the "literary decade" that saw the birth of the Algonquin Round Table, The Literary Guild, Publisher Cocktail Parties, and The American Mercury in a decade that introduced the literary public to "realism, sex, and literate cynicism." Authors covered include Sinclair Lewis, Dreiser (not Fran), H. L. Mencken, Cabell, Hergesheimer, Van Vechten, Dos Pasos, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Burton Rascoe, Christopher Morley, William Woodward. Publishers discussed include Horace Liveright and Alfred A. Knopf. A very good first printing of the first edition. Binding is secure and relaxed. Bound in orange cloth, blind-stamped front board, and with bright, nonfaded gilt spine titles. Interior pages printing on bright white quality paper. End papers lightly toned. Dust jacket chipped at corners and head and foot of the spine and has minor soiling and an ink smudge on the back. Large 8vo hardcover in orange cloth.
