Book
Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 96 Pages. Light wear to covers and spine. Two inch crease at cover top corner that also affects many the followi on pages. Front cover is a bit looser at the glued binding than the remaining pages. The remainder of the book is tight. This volume of fifty masterpieces from the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe is the result of a collaboration between Norman A. Geske, Director of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Nebraska, and Ellen Bradbury, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of New Mexico. This is a selection of the best and at the same time represents a substantial piece of the history of painting in New Mexico. In a broader sense, it offers an illuminating review of American art history as it developed within the confines of a particular geographical region. This book is the result of a cooperative touring exhibit of the Mid-America region with the superb colletion paintings from the Santa Fe museum working with Sheldon Art Galery of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. These paintings went on tour while the Santa Fe Museum was undergoing a major renovation. Everything that characterizes modern art is represented - Realism and Surrealism, Impressionism and Expressionism, Cubism and Constructivism, the documentary, the poetic and the mystical. Accompanied by a foreword by Ellen Bradbury and an introduction by Norman A. Geske, the sixteen color plates and thirty-four black and white photographs truly reflect the light and color of New Mexico. It includes some history of the art and biographies of the artists represented.
