Chronicle of the visit of the Marquis de Lafayette to Germantown in Philadelphia. Besides a reception at Clivden, the scene of a significant phase of the Battle of Germantown, Lafayette visited other nearby sights associated with the American Revolution. There are also interesting descriptions of houses and the landscape of the area in the early 19th-century. Original one-half black leather with banded spine and gilt title; blue and gold marbled boards and endpapers. Upper pages gilt-edged; others untrimmed. Moderate wear to spine and corners with slight separation to front board at head of spine. Binding firm; pages internally clean. Two-tone photographs and illustrations with tissue guards. Inscribed by William Redwood Wright, a former captain in the 6th Pa. Cavalry during the Civil War, and prominent shipping magnate, banker, and treasurer of Philadelphia. Wright's estate, Waldheim, was located on the present campus of LaSalle University, and he was an active member of the Germantown Cricket, and Schuylkill Fishing clubs. Signed by Author(s).
