Book
Condition: Gut. Taschenbucherstausgabe. XVII, 844 (2) Seiten mit einigen Abbildungen. 22,2 cm. Umschlaggestaltung: Celestino Piatti. Lesetipp des Bouquinisten! Guter Zustand. G. B. Softcover. Condition: Fine in wraps. 8vo. 778 pp. With 152 black and white plates/illustrations, bibliography and index, Later printing of the anniversary edition. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the book stands as a metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll. While concerned directly with the nature of 'maps' or links between formal systems, Hofstadter asserts that the formal system that underlies all mental activity transcends the system that supports it. I.e., if consciousness can emerge out of a formal system of firing neurons, then so too will computers attain human intelligence.
