Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Records of our History Dreams of Empire: Canada before 1700; by André Vachon of the Royal Society of Canada in collaboration with Victorin Chabot and André Desrosiers; Public Archives Canada, 1982. Dreams of Empire is the first volume of a new Public Archives collection entitled Records of our History. Intended for the general public, as well as for students, this collection broadly traces the many facets of Canada's development and presents reproductions of the principal archival documents, the guides to the past that researchers consult when writing on the history of the country. Dreams of Empire presents an overview of Canada's history from the first explorers to 1700. The book contains reproductions of 250 items maps, engravings, paintings, seals, medals, manuscripts, and printed matter from fifty-two Canadian, American and European institutions. There are 3 other titles; the second in the series covers 1700 to 1760 published in 1985, the third 1760 to 1815 published in 1988 and the fourth 1849 to 1873 was published in 1992. All volumes are currently available by this bookseller. This large volume, 387 pages measuring 278mm X 210mm, is in fine condition in a near-fine dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. This is a high-class work, printed on heavy, calendered paper stock. With the effort that when into creating the content and the high production cost, I am surprised that the market price isn't much higher.
