This offering is an older copy, in very good condition, of The Devil's Bacbone, The Story of the Natchez Trace written by Jonathan Daniels with map and headpieces by the Dillons. The book was published by McGraw-Hill Book Company in 1962, or so, is a stated Seventh Printing, and a book in The American Trails Series. Both the book and the dust jacket are in very good condition (though there is a small piece missing at the top of the dust jacket near the spine . . . my plasticene protector will conceal that flaw quite nicely) and it's not an ex-library copy. It has 278 pages with an Index, a Sources and Acknowledgments section, a Table of Contents,and some black-and-white maps/illustrations.

The 6 by 9 inch hardcover book is 278 pages and in good condition. The brown cloth boards are clean and have sharp corners, but there is fading to the spine. The text pages are without markings. However, it is from the Smithsonian library with call number tag to the spine and barcode to the back cover with associated stamping on the front free end page, dated 1976. The dust jacket is tucked inside but has creases and chipping concentrated on the spine. This is Daniel Boorstin's copy, with bookplate present inside. Daniel J. Boorstin was the twelfth librarian of congress from 1975 until 1987, appointed under President Ford. He was also an accomplished author of more than 20 books, contributing much to the fields of sociology and history. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1973, for his book, The Americans: The Democratic Experience. .
