Book First Edition
Softcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Revised edition later in 1969. Custer Battlefield Historical Handbook Series I. In white wraps with sketch of Custr on cover and red titling; modernistic drawings by Leonard Baskin, photos, maps, 94pp. Dowd #3036. O'Keefe #2422. Very Good with some light soiling and wear. This is referred to as the "nude Custer edition." Through the efforts of author, Robert Utley (one of the elite Custer experts), the first printing of this handbook did NOT contain the sketch of a dead and nude Custer. The page was left blank in the 1st edition due to Utley's efforts. When the Custer Battlefield depleted its supply of the first printing and ordered more, the National Park Service put the the "nude Custer" drawing back in the book. The book gives Gall's and Low Dog's accounts of the battle. Nice collectible - not only for the content, but the controversy surrounding Baskin's sketch.
