Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Hardcover published by Random House, 1938. Historical novel based on the life of Byzantine general Belisarius. Dated on the copyright page as 1938, though there is no further information regarding the edition besides that, this is most likely an early reprint since the first printing was a green cloth covered hardcover. No dust jacket. 565 pages, 6" X 8-3/4". Hardcover boards are flat, the top corners are slightly bumped inward, and there is some rubbing wear to the spine panel, though all lettering of the title on the spine is entirely legible. There are vertical fields of age tanning on paste-down pages, both front and back. Slight pencil mark of a former price on the top right corner of the first flyleaf page. No further writing besides that pencil mark. Brick red top-stain to the edge of the text block shows some fading and some slight spots of stains on the top and bottom edges. Binding is tight and square. Not a library discard. Attached are some photos of the copy we have in our inventory.
