For many of the early quarto editions of Shakespearian quartos, only half a dozen or so copies are known. In some cases, as for the 1594 Titus Andronicus, only one surviving copy is known (see Introduction, page ix). This title lists the ownership of known copies, and has notes on the binding, condition, and completeness for most of the individual copies. Some of the main owners of Shakespearean quartos are the British Museum, Folger, and Huntington. An appendix lists unidentified copies that were listed in auction sales, but whose ownership is unknown. The 1916 first edition of this title includes a 33 page Introduction (pp. ix-xli), which was not included in the revised 1939 edition, which has a shorter 3 page Introduction.
