Decorative Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Enlarged Edition. Dark blue cloth variant, illus. and lettered in gilt, decorated in blind. A section of the front cover along joint and partially extending into gilt title, as well as the top corner of the rear cover, show dampstaining, resulting in loss of color to the cloth, with a few small holes of loss as well, otherwise only light shelf wear with slight exposure at corners, light rubbing to spine extremities. Both areas are essentially only cosmetic defects and would be quite easy to restore simply by matching the cloth dye color (which we have not attempted). Spine panel shows light surface rubbing, and most of gilt lettering/decoration is dulled by age. Text block is clean and fully intact excepting a 1/2" closed tear along the fore-edges of the front flyleaf and succeeding frontis. leaf (Lincoln portrait), binding firm, hinges intact. 648 pp., 1000+ illus., "splendidly illustrated from the original photographs of the celebrated Brady Collection in the possession of the Government," with black and white photographs, reproduced engravings, full page color chromolithograph plates. Date approximate based on content; this edition expanded and revised, showing copyright dates of 1894 and 1896 on verso of main title but necessarily dating later, no earlier than 1902, given text on second main title (p. 549), commencing coverage of the latter three wars mentioned in the title. The Civil War coverage extends through p. 548, including the 1897 dedication of U. S. Grant's tomb (p. 546). Exceptional. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.
