Laminated Pictorial Boards. Condition: Very Good -. No Jacket. Karel Franta (illustrator). This 8" X 11", 240-page offering in VG- condition is The Book of Goodnight Stories was written by Vratislav Stovicek, illustrated by Karel Franta, translated by Stephen Finn, and published by Exeter Books in 1983. Not an ex-library copy, this still physically sound offering does have some random, small rough spots/scuffs on the front cover piece where the surface color has been flecked off, but in very minor amounts; the text's pages, also, show some ever-so-slight yellowing. This extremely ambitious effort consists of a brief little tale for literally every night for one calendar year. Many of the stories begin and end in one nightly installment, while many others are in two, or three, or four parts, and therefore require the young listener to be patient for a day, before being treated to that story's continuation(perhaps intended by the author to be a form of memory/recall exercise?). Some sample titles include "Prince Bajaja and the Golden Apple", "The Ugly Duckling", "The Dragon Band", "How the Mouse and the Frog Fell Out", "The Three Spinstresses", and "The Selfish Fox". And, like "The Ugly Duckling", many of the old favorites are to be found within this volume, too, such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Rumpelstiltzkin". I haven't even mentioned what some might consider the most appealing feature of this book, that being the charming Illustrations, in vivid color, one or two to a page, executed by one Karel Franta. Stories translated by Stephen Finn. Thanks very much!!.
