Sheet Music First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. LUTHER, Martin. Ane Sang of the Birth of Christ (Luther's Christmas Carol). Np (Edinburgh): A Saltire Publication, Nd (1947?) Traslation into Scots 1578. Music for piano and voice by Francis George Scott. Original Printed Wrappers. Fine copy, as issued. Notes: Francis George Scott was one of the most important Scottish composers of the early years of the last century. A miniaturist he showed great skill in marrying music to lyrics, especially of the poet Hugh MacDiarmid. The lyric of this carol is based on the thirteenth and fourteenth stanza of the version in Scots of Luther's "Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her" found in the 1567 second edition of the 'Gude and Godlie Ballatis' where it is translated as 'Followis ane sang of the birth of Christ'. where the first line reads: 'Oh, my deir heart, young Jesus sweit'.
