Hardcover. Condition: Good. 3rd Edition. Tan paper-covered boards show rubbing and handling wear, soiling, and touches of staining, with boartds showing at fore-edges and bottom corners. Binding is still holding well, though hinges are somewhat shaken and front hinge seems tender to boot. Previous owner's name pencilled to ffep. Some pencil lines in places scattered throughout the text, marking places aside or underneath passages. A small handful of minor stains also present, mostly confined to margins. A couple of leaves were dogeared, now corrected. This is a school reader, with stories, poems, and short essays on what seems to be a wide range of subjects having to do with Finnish life and culture. Many B/W line drawings illustrating the readings. All pages are present and are, aside from the defects noted above, surprisingly clean and easily legible. This copy is a true survivor, as we can find only one other copy of the 1908 edition in existence, in the Finnish National Library. Ideal for Finnish Studies graduate students researching early 20th Century Finnish schooling. The lead author was critical to the development of Finnish curricula. Scarce if not rare.
