The author's first completed novel, written in 1958, but not published until the late 70s. It follows the adventures of Jephraim Tallow and his quest for the golden barge. The novel gives a hint at the author's themes in his Eternal Champion novels as well as the worlds of Jerry Cornelius. Creasing of the book corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Tanning of the text block edges and pages and there is foxing to the verso of the book covers and to the first few and last few pages of the book. Previous owner's sticker to the lower edge of the rear panel.
