Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. This 'As New' First Edition set of two matching hardback volumes in the original red slip case was published by Philip Wilson in 1995. The condition of both volumes is 'As New' as is that of the dust-jackets. One condition exception to note: a clumsy bookseller once managed to drop the second volume and there is a snub on the back lower corner. The volumes are bound with immaculate red cloth on stiff boards. The spine titles are in gilt. The endpapers are beige-coloured. Volume I has 544 numbered pages and Volume II continues with the same pagination and ends at 1,052. The volumes describe around 7,000 drawings and watercolours, with 1,100 works illustrated in black and white and 33 in colour. Many of these works are by such familiar names as Burne-Jones, Callow, Dore, Haghe, Hayter, Lami, Landseer, Leighton and Winterhalter. This catalogue also contains watercolours collected by other members of the Royal Family, such as The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII and his brother Alfred (Duke of Edinburgh) before 1901. The size of each volume in inches is 12.1 x 9.2 and set weighs 5.80 kg. The books have been well protected by their study slip case which is still structurally sound and with the exception of a snubbed rear lower corer is in 'Near Fine'. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35. Overseas buyers will be asked to agree to pay extra additional delivery costs as the set weighs well over 1 kg.
