Book
Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Here, Parkett showcases the work of four artists whose work foregrounds the distance between the observer and the thing observed. The observer in question may be simultaneously the artist and the viewer, and the observations may concern the world, the society or the self--but in each case, these artists subvert the laws of objectivity versus subjectivity, conceptualism versus realism, the verbal versus the visual. Cultural nomads or archaeologists of information, Lothar Baumgarten's installations, language and other systems of categorization are turned inside out, revealing the anxieties such nomenclature is designed to suppress. For Tiravanija, however, the medium of exchange is not words but consumables, whose traces tell us who we are. In the epic everyday spaces of Andreas Gursky's photographic spaces, as much as in the extraterrestrial content of Vija Celmins' pictures, the universal and the mundane are held in taut suspension, resulting in images that remain simultaneously intimate and enigmatic. Other features of this special issue include Lynne Cooke on "Micromegas," Alexandre Melo on peripheries, Jason Simon on Mark Dion and more. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Douglas Gordon exposes certain time-based effects that are at the root of our sense of psychological security. This process is implemented by re-emphasizing key elements from carefully researched material, as well as using specially made video and film footage to restructure the mass of connections that influence an artist's activity. What could be described as aestheticising the dynamic of trauma and reassurance has been combined with an ongoing desire to acknowledge his position as a self-conscious artist working within the specific power structures of the art world. --Liam Gillick, Parkett No. 49, 1997 Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

Book
Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Perception itself is playfully subjectivized by the trio of younger artists collaborating in the newest issue of Parkett . Infusing a poetic sensuality into Minimalism's legacy, Gabriel Orozco's works vary from sculptural triumphs to more ephemeral, performative acts, such as rolling a huge ball of plasticine, of exactly his own body weight, through the streets in order to "get an impression" of the world around him. Gary Hume's paintings range from geometric abstractions to almost psychedelic figuration, his luscious colors and glistening surfaces both entice and repel the viewer. For Pipilotti Rist, the game of perceptual experience focuses on performance, in videos and installations whose manipulations of the figure and its movements seem to form and dissolve before our eyes. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

Condition: Sehr gut. Frank, Robert (illustrator). First revised edition 1989. [170] Seiten, überwiegend Abb. Sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar. Umschlag sehr wenig lädiert. / EN: Very good and clean copy. Cover slightly worn, tiny rip (2mm). - The Lines of My Hand is structured chronologically and presents selections from every stage of Frank s work until 1972 from early photos in Switzerland in 1945 46, to images of his travels in Peru, Paris, Valencia, London and Wales, and to contact sheets from his 1955 56 journey through the US that resulted in The Americans and made him famous. Here too are intimate photos of Frank s young family, later photo-collages and stills from films including Pull My Daisy (1959) and About Me: A Musical (1971). This structure itself mirrors the rhythm of Frank s life but it is his short personal texts, like diary entries, that fully bring his voice into the book. In its original combination of text and image, its fearless self-reflection, and its insistence on photography and film as equal though different aspects of the artist s visual language, The Lines of My Hand has become an inspiration for many photographers not least Robert Frank himself, who continues and expands this approach in the visual diaries he makes today.
