1st ed. Hardback octavo, no jacket as issued, red cloth cover, very good condition. 288 pp. Research on the roles of hostility and anger in the etiology and course of coronary heart disease (CHD) has recently mushroomed. Moreover, there has been considerable progress in the knowledge of neurohormonal correlates of anger and hostility that perhaps play a role in the pathogenesis of CHD. Although there is a surprising consensus among the contributors about the nature of the critical issues, they each offer differing perspectives.

Hardback octavo, no jacket as issued, very good condition, figures, edges foxed, minor edgewear, bookshop sticker rear cover. 190 pp. Joel Michell examines the widespread assumption that existing psychometric procedures provide scientific measurement. Operationalism and representationalism are critically examined, and the classical view, that measurement assesses quantity, is defended. Conjoint measurement is used to test the hypothesis that variables are quantitative. He uses psychological examples such as Thurstone's law of comparative judgment, multidimensional scaling, and the Coombs theory of unfolding. The numerous mathematical formulae, tables and charts add to the understanding of the material. The author is an academic, University of Sydney, who specialises in history and philosophy of psychological measurement.

Gr. 8° (23,5cm), Pappbd. geb. Essays in cognitive psychology series. XII und 195 S. Zustand: sehr gut. Very good condition! - "Theorists are increasingly arguing that it is fruitful to approach anxiety from the cognitive perspecive, and the empirical evidence supports that contention. The cognitive perspective ist also adopted in this book, but the approach represents a development and extension of earlier ones. For example, most previous theories and research were based on anxiety either in clinical or in normal groups. In contrast, one fo the central themes of this book ist that there are great advantages to be gained from a joint consideration of clinical an normal anxiety (Verlagstext)."
