Hard cover dust wrapper 257pp b&w plates, maps. Spine a little slack, else very good+ Johnnie Houlton had arrived in Britain from New Zealand under the Empire Training Scheme in early 1942. For the next two years he was almost continually in action, or seeking action, mainly with 485 (NZ) Spitfire Squadron. He volunteered for service in Malta in August 1942, spending five months their during the siege. On his return to the UK re rejoined 485 Squadron which was carrying out regular sweeps over Northern France. By the time of the Normandy landings he was flying the Spitfire Mark IX and he and his section were the first since the invasion began to shoot down enemy aircraft.
