Book
Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Goodson, Rose Mary - Art (illustrator). Eighth Printing Stated. 250 Pages Indexed. A fine book with very light wear to cover edges and corners. No marks or stamps. Interior text pages are flawless. This book is the story of Deadwood, North Dakota's infamous Boot Hill and some of those buried there, including Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickock. Illustrated on most pages with vintage photographs, maps, contemporary photographs by Al Gunther, and drawings by Rose Mary Goodson. This is the author's first book and it began when she decided to write a pamphlet about Mount Moriah, the Deadwood Boot Hill and Cemetery and some of its inhabitants. She began researching the Record Book of the Deadwood Cemetery Association, its libraries and museums, and in Mount Moriah itself. She interviewed pioneers, historians, and knowledgeable residents of Deadwood and the area. The author has said she gathered so much information that she was forced to write a book instead of a pamphlet. Contents in Four Parts: History of Deadwood and Its Two Boot Hills, Vignettes of the Big Four (Hickok, Calamity Jane, Preacher Smith and Potato Creek Johnny), Vignettes of Pioneers and Notables, and Epitaphs. Plus Bibliography.
