Book First Edition
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First edition. 220 p., wrps. Paladin of progress and innate reformer, Jose Joaquin Fernandez de Lizardi began his literary career in 1808 writing festive and burlesque verses in which he ridiculed the abuses and bad habits of certain types, depraved or extravagant, that swarmed then in the capital of New Spain. Verses of that genre were very much in vogue at the time, and those of Lizardi are not distinguished from others that abound in the Diario de Mexico (1805-1817) but in the publication procedure, that is, in brochures. that were sold directly to the public. In the compositions of this period does not interfere Lizardi in political questions, and one of his poems, Muralla de Mexico in the protection of Maria Santisima Nuestra Senora (1811), indicates that he was not anything addicted to the revolutionaries of 1810. The viceregal government, which had seen with bad eyes the liberties granted by the new.

The colloquia of Hernán González de Eslava belong to the genre of religious drama, which was a form of medieval origin that prevailed in the 15th and 16th centuries driven by Devout Humanism. This genre, common to many peoples of Europe, spread to Latin America supported by the evangelizing purpose of Spain and responds to the characteristics of medieval and Christian art: the didactic and moralizing purpose, the use of dialogue according to the scholastic method, the mixture of the high and low worlds, of the heroes and the servants, the coexistence of the comic and the serious, and comedy as a didactic resource to show sin. There is nothing in this genre that can belong to the Renaissance spirit, and yet it coexists with it for two centuries.
