First Edition
First Edition. First and only printing. Folder enclosing ten pages with accompanying text in four languages - Polish, English, French, and Italian. Alternating pages 1, 3, 5, and 7 describe in those four languages, respectively, the wartime activities of the sponsoring organization. Pages 2, 4, 6, and 8 have perforate-edge examples of four of a series of nine stamps issued by the Polish Forces post offices in Italy. The four selected for presentation in the album are the higher-denomination ones, with face values of 1, 3, 5, and 10 lira. The booklet also includes three "blocks" with single examples of the 1, 3, and 5 lira stamps. No. 340 of a total edition of 2000 copies. Fine condition, one block light creased on left side. Whether these attractive stamps should be considered as mere curiosities is controversial in philatelic circles. The consensus seems to be that they were in fact used by the Polish forces remaining in Italy at the close of the war, but that they are not considered as official Italian postal issues. In any case, in this presentation they are incorporated in text, and this is a publication rather than simply a stamp album. The booklet was finely printed by the State Polygraphic Institute, Rome. The designer of the stamps was Margit V. Szitanyi del Qriido-Koziellkiewicz, and the project was completed by Tadeusz del Qriido-Koziellkiewicz. The spelling of this unusual surname is attested to in various prewar Polish sources. The title of the booklet is the Polish national hymn, rendered in English as Poland still survives, Poland's soul lives, etc. Not found in WorldCat. Not in the catalog of the Polish National Library.
