tall sewn PAPERBACK with stiff covers, attractive copy, very good. part title was written in pencil on bottom foredge but almost completely and neatly erased. GIROUD, VINCENT. William Walton, composer: a centenary exhibition in the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Yale University. New Haven: Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library ; Distributed by University Press of New England, 2002, 63pp., . This book catalogs an exhibition held at the Beinecke Library of Yale University to commemorate the centennial of one of England's foremost modern composers. The work draws on Walton's rich archive, which is present at the Beinecke in near entirety as part of the important recent accession, the Frederick R. Koch collection. Manuscript and printed scores, letters, photographs, books, and memorabilia document Walton's career beginning with his teenage years at Oxford and into his early twenties, when he was "adopted" by Edith Sitwell, who combined his music and her poems in Facade. The result enlivened the London art scene and would eventually find great fame as a ballet. Among his many works in his fifty years as a composer, Walton wrote such works as Portsmouth Point, the Viola Concerto, Belshazzar's Feast, and the coronation march of 1937. These, and his very popular patriotic scores for war-time films, would secure his place in English musical history. 9780845731444 ISBN 0845731440.

First Edition
First Edition. First Edition. square octavo, pictorial wrappers. (91) pp. Beinecke Rare Book Library/Yale University, James Matthew Barrie's fame is based largely on that iconic work of twentieth-century drama and children's literature, Peter Pan: The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up, a cultural juggernaut that flew into the hearts of theater-goers and readers. Always interested in the nature of childhood, Barrie's devotion to the young Llewelyn Davies brothers signaled an experiment with form that produced the play Peter Pan. Its success, following its 1904 premiere, assured Barrie a permanent place in popular culture and spawned an avalanche of novelties that eventually overshadowed most of Barrie's other works, including his insightful later plays and essays. The story of Barrie and the Llewelyn Davies family has also entered the realm of legend, having been explored in books, plays, and the recent motion picture Finding Neverland. The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University holds a collection of manuscripts and books documenting Barrie's life and has put a selection of them on display to mark Peter Pan's 100th anniversary. This accompanying catalogue features images and descriptions of objects from the exhibition, forming a timeline that traces the development of Barrie's work in connection with his life. Timothy Young's prefatory essay discusses the ongoing impact of this enigmatic genius. Beautifully illustrated. Very fine. square octavo, pictorial wrappers.
