Preliminary leaves with very light age-toning to edges. Modest foxing to pastedowns. Boards with wear, stains and uneven fading; joints starting, with light fraying. Of an edition limited to 1,000 copies, this is stamped copy number 153. Title continues: "A Series of Historical Examples from Roman Times to the End of the XVIIIth Century." An appreciation of historic French infrastructure that survived WWI. The work begs the question of bridge-attrition leveled by WWII. In sum, the Pierre Vignal watercolors are exquisite; the drawings by Rosenberg and Chamberlain edifying. A handsome, luxe production. Loose sheets in cloth folio with cloth ties.

Goodhue was a celebrated American architect known for his neo-gothic design and also for notable typefaces. He is credited with creating a distinctive interpretation of Spanish Colonial architecture into a dominant Californian regional vernacular: Spanish Colonial Revival Style. Binding rubbed with some light soiling. Spine slightly frayed at top, three inch piece of leather missing at base and darkened from sun influence. Small sticker with number on front, dealer sticker on back endpaper. Little sporadic smudging in part II with some soiling at plates xviii and xix, not affecting the images. Binding in overall fair, interior in good+ to very good condition.
