Black Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Not a First. Black Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good+. Not a First. Hardback. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 192 pages; 2 p. index; 3 p. bibliographies; from the dj: ".Allen Estrin provides a penetrating reappraisal of three legendary Hollywood directors (Capra, Cukor, and Clarence Brown). .All three studies are well illustrated and supported by detailed filmographies." Apparantly this book was a complementary gift of the publisher, for a A.S. Barnes business card (circa 2.0 x 3.5 inches with a San Diego, CA address; Linda L. Rill - Director, Public Relations) is glued to the back panel of the dj. There is tan tonal foxing on the front flyleaf. Apparantly some news clip or other acid containing paper was stored there; otherwise, book and dj are in very nice condition.

First impression of the first American edition [dual-published in 1972 in the UK and the USA by The Tantivy Press, London & A. S. Barnes & Co. South Brunswick and New York]. ***Attractive wraparound psychedelic colour dustwrapper pop-art illustration design by Stefan Dreja. ***Profusely illustrated with over one hundred black and white cinema stills from the Bond films throughout. ***Near fine in the American produced pale grey boards with black titles to spine [the UK produced first edition had pink cloth-covered boards and was a smaller format]. Edges of boards slightly rubbed. Cream-coloured front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Very small light bump to bottom of front board. Offsetting to front and rear pastedown. No inscriptions. Spine tight. Pages clean. In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper which has not been price-clipped, showing original publisher's price of $6.95. Edges of dustwrapper very slightly rubbed and creased. A couple of minuscule unobtrusive nicks to bottom corner of front panel of dustwrapper. Spine and front and rear panels and inner large flaps of dustwrapper bright and clean. 176 pages including two appendixes to rear. 260 mm x 174 mm. ***Chapters: 1: Why So Popular?; 2: Dr. No.; 3. From Russia With Love; 4: Goldfinger; 5: Thunderball; 6: You Only Live Twice; 7: On Her Majesty's Secret Service; 8: Diamonds Are Forever; Appendix 1: Offshoots from Bond; Appendix 2: Credits.*** 'James Bond, Agent 007, is probably the most popular literary and screen hero of the postwar period. Ian Fleming began writing his Bond thrillers in the early fifties, but it was not until almost ten years later that Dr. No., from Russia With Love, and Goldfinger were brought to the cinema. ***These films broke box-office records everywhere, and made Sean Connery, the Scot who played Bond, into a Superstar of spectacular proportions. Now with Diamonds Are Forever fresh in the minds of millions, this book offers an entertaining assessment of Bond on the screen. ***John Brosnan, a freelance writer who has reviewed films in Australia, captures the tongue-in-cheek suspense of the Bond thrillers as he describes, in precise detail, virtually every sequence of Dr. No, from Russia with love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Diamonds Are Forever. ***The author also indicates how various tense moments and special effects were achieved, and he discusses the initiative of Harry Saltzman and Albert ("Cubby") Broccoli in launching the series through their company, Eon Productions. In a valuable Appendix, there is coverage of Casino Royale, based on the novel by Ian Fleming, but made by a different team to the Connery pictures; and of the other films that tried to cash in on the phenomenal success of the 007 series. The full credits and cast lists for the Eon productions are also given. **This attractive volume contains over one hundred stills from the Bond films, and these illustrations, together with Mr. Brosnan's amusing and compulsively readable text, make James Bond in the Cinema an excellent acquisition for anyone who has enjoyed either the novels or the films - or both.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***First impression of the American first edition of James Bond in the Cinema, with attractive vibrant colour pop art dust jacket design by Stefan Dreja complete in its original dustwrapper uncommon to find in nice bright collectable condition. ***Of interest to collectors of first edition James Bond and Ian Fleming titles and those interested in the film industry and cinema. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
