Two white women (now widows), the authors of these accounts, were taken captive by Big Bear's warriors. These 78 pages, originall published in Fall 1885, are the tale of that captivity. Sarah Carter provides a 38 pages scholarly introduction wherein she shows how the Gowanlock-Delaney piece was used to shape the `Indian policy' of the Canadian government of the day.
