Softcover. Condition: Good +. Folio, 159pp illustrated throughout with photographs. An Inuit record of Seekooseelak - the Land of the People of Cape Dorset, Baffin Island. A life story with photographs by Peter Pitseolak. Peter Pitseolak took his first picture in the 1930s and the pictures in this book range from the early 1940s to the 60s. He the first native Baffin Island photographer, born in the November of 1902. As a child he lived a traditional nomadic life followed by his ancestors, but the intrusion of modern life - government, schools, nurses etc. was to change the Inuit way of life dramatically by the time of his death. A fascinating photographic history. This copy itself is interesting as it has what I assume are Inuit syllabics, written in pencil on the front and rear inner covers. Crease to rear cover and some edge wear, generally in good clean condition inside.
