Book First Edition
Trade paperback. Condition: Very good. First Printing [Stated]. xi, [3], 275, [1] pages. Notes. Illustrations. Poetry. Notes on Contributors. Index. John Carlos Rowe is one of the nation's foremost Americanists, and he has been largely responsible for helping spearhead the "new American studies" as well as the rise of international American studies programs across the globe. He has published widely on the intersections of nineteenth-century American literature and postmodern theory and U.S. imperialism. Rick Berg was drafted into the Marine Corps and served as an enlisted man in Vietnam from February 1968 to March 1969. He later became an academic. Most of the essays in this collection refer to literary work but the import of these essays goes much deeper. War veterans, journalists, poets and professors have contributed to this study which describes how US culture represented and continues to represent the Vietnam War on television, in newspapers, in military propaganda films, novels, plays and music. Topics covered include The Vietnam War and History, The Vietnam War and Mass Media, The Vietnam War and Popular Media. Contributors include Noam Chomsky, Stephen Vlastos, Carol Lynn Mithers, Cludia Springer, Rick Berg, John Carlos Rowe, Michael Clark, Susan Jeffords, David James, and W. W. Ehrhart.
