Hardcover book with original dj, boards are green with black print, 188pp, weighs 400gms. George Younghusband, the author, was the Keeper of the Jewel House at the Tower of London. He wrote this book to be of use to those who visit the Tower of London and wish to carry away some recollection of its significance in English history. The book includes a general history of the tower, a description of the tower, as well as anecdotal stories about the tower. Book includes 17 black and white illustrations by Donald Maxwell, plus a black and white illustrated frontispiece. Book is in good condition for age with general age related wear and tear, page discolouration and spotting. Dj suffers from shelf wear and has a number of small tears particularly around top and bottom of spine, dj is chatty around the edges. Small pen inscription from previous owner has been erased on inside front endpaper. Otherwise no other pre-loved markings. This is a good solid copy. Attached picture is of actual book. A book in Good condition with occasional scattered foxing throughout. A rare book. Sir George John Younghusband (1859-1944) was a British Major-General in the army and an author. He was the brother of the more famous General Sir Francis Younghusband. He joined the army in 1878 and served much of his term in India. After World War I he was appointed keeper of the Jewel House at the Tower of London. His works include: Eighteen Hundred Miles on a Burmese Tat (1888), Polo in India (1890), On Short Leave to Japan (1894), Indian Frontier Warfare (1898), The Philippines and Round About (1899), The Story of the Guides (1908), The Tower From Within (1918), The Tower of London (1919), Forty Years a Soldier (1923) and A Soldier's Memories in Peace and War (1925).
