Original Printed Wrappers. Condition: Near Fine. J.E. Church, Jr., William F. Bade, J.N. LeConte, Sadie Bixby, Pillsbury Pictures (illustrator). First Edition. San Francisco: Sierra Club, 1912. First Edition. June, 1912 Issue [Vol. VIII, No. 4]. Original printed wrappers, 9 3/4" x 6 1/4"; 48 pp. + viii + photo plates + ads. Very, very Near Fine, certainly one of the nicest examples available from this early in the series. Very minute traces of handling, not even any of the typical issues with the overextending circuit binding (yapp binding). See scan. Clean, sturdy, handsome, bright. Everything we all aspire to be ourselves. See scans. The shorter-than-usual, but rich-in-content list of lengthy feature articles for this somewhat abbreviated and very rare issue include "A Midwinter Trip Through Nevada's Mountain Park" (J.E. Church, Jr.); "The Mountain Bluebird and the Wood Pewee" (editor William F. Bade); and "The Steer's-Head Flower of the Sierra Nevada" (Willis Linn Jepson) with an interesting sketch (scan). See scan of the contents page for more on the ensuing departments, themselves always engrossing. The photographs for which the publication has long been famous were executed, for this issue, by J.E. Church, Jr., William F. Bade, J.N. LeConte, Sadie Bixby, and Pillsbury Pictures. SC-2.
