Wilkerson, an African American, graduated from the University of Kansas. He became a college professor but resigned from Howard University before formally joining the Communist Party in 1943. He remained a Party loyalist until resigning in 1957. Wilkerson got a teaching job at Yeshive University in 1962 and remained there for about eleven years before leaving to work for an educational consulting firm for another decade or so.

Youth Development, Inc. operated a remedial and tutoring program, a summer camp, and a scholarship program for at-risk youth in New York City. Wilkerson, an African American, prepared this report, listing himself as "Consultant. Wilkerson had ended his involvement with the Communist Party in 1957 returned to work in academia. He was a professor at Yeshiva University when this report was prepared. We don't know whether this report was ever published.
