Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Harry Webster, Helen Nichols (illustrator). First Edition. New York: Zimmerman's, 1901. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition, basically an alphabet book. EXTREMELY SCARCE (the only copies held are at LOC and Princeton). Quercus finds this book very interesting because it is illustrated in both photographs by Helen Nichols and artwork by Harry Webster; most children's books of the time are only illustrated with drawings. Brown paper-covered boards, illustrated with a photograph; brown cloth spine. Remarkably clean text, free of juvenalia; 64 pages. Occasional tears and smudges, but nothing really destructive. The corners are bumped and the edges are chipped, but this is really in quite good condition. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Edition. Pictorial Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Harry Webster, Helen Nichols.

Webster, Harry and Helen Nichols (illustrator). Quarto. (64)pp. Chromolithographs and photoreproductions throughout provide a visual field of play for this assemblage of rhyming verses, tales, and ABCs. The book, too, revels in typographical exuberance, selecting typefacesâ "whether standard or hand-drawn and transferredâ "that embrace the expressionist bent of modern advertising and illustration. Bound pictorial boards backed in purple cloth. General edgewear and toning, with a bright interior. Near fine and quite scarce, with only one copy recorded in OCLC.
