Broadside, 20 x 13 1/2 inches. Neatly folded, light foxing. A near fine copy. A large and historically important North Carolina Confederate anti-secessionist broadside, banned by the Confederates as seditious. In this circular letter, Tyson advocates a reconciliation between the Union and Confederate armies, which he believes would be accomplished by deposing Lincoln and disavowing the Emancipation Proclamation. A militant Unionist, anti-secessionist, and anti-abolitionist, Tyson was an important and dedicated spokesman for those Southerners who supported maintaining the Union. Further, he was brave enough to publish his sentiments. This broadside was meant to accompany Tyson's book, A RAY OF LIGHT: OR, A TREATISE ON THE SECTIONAL TROUBLES RELIGIOUSLY AND MORALLY CONSIDERED, published in the same year, though the work and this broadside were possibly banned by the Confederates. A rare broadside, with Parrish & Willingham locating just six copies; OCLC adds five more copies over four record numbers. PARRISH & WILLINGHAM 6011.
