Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Joseph Low (illustrator). [384pp, top edge orange]: [vi], 378; teal boards printed red, jacket ($3.50 on flap); 197 x 138 x 31 mm. The fifth of the author's six so-called Jungle or Indian novels, translator uncredited; originally issued in German (1936). Copyright ascribed to Esperanza Lopez Mateos (the author's secretary, 1941-51) & Josef Wieder (formerly with the author's German publisher, Buchergilde Gutenberg, Zurich). A tight clean copy in bright jacket with a 2cm closed tear rear at head (terminating in the loss of a small chip). Though bearing only the price of the original Knopf edition, the present reissue appears (from ads on the back panel of the jacket), to have been offered to members at the Club price of $1.64 plus postage. Nevertheless, contrary to other book club issues, the present volume remains far scarcer than the ubiquitous Knopf edition.
