An uncut copy with only slight signs of wear to the cover. The Swedish zoologist Karl Alfred Sixten Bock [1884-1946] took his doctorate at Uppsala University in 1913. For his dissertation, "Studien über Polycladen", which dealt with the anatomy of polyclads (marine flatworms) and included descriptions of previously-unknown genera and species, he was awarded a docenteur in 1914. This was also the year in which he visited Japan and collected (mostly in the Bonin [Ogasawara] Islands south of Tokyo) the more than 50 species and varieties of crinoids (sea lilies) described in the work offered here. From 1929 until his death Dr. Bock was the professor and head of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
