Size of binding: 8 ½ in. x 11 in., xviii, 483 pp., illustrated with twenty, tipped-in, full color plates of Lewis Baumer illustrations, each with a title-printed paper guard; these pastel colored illustrations are especially rich in costume details. Bound in full, russet-brown morocco leather, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, with their binder s stamp gilt in the lower edge of the front leather turn-in. Five raised bands on the spine, with gilt-lettered titling, and decorations in compartments, gilt borders to both covers, gilt dentelles on leather turn-ins; sewn headbands; all edges gilt; brown-toned marbled paper endpapers. The binding is in fine condition, as are the text and plates. One of the most desirable illustrated editions of Thackeray s Vanity Fair. which is still his most widely read novel and the source for several film adaptations.
