Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (SD). You can see the covers in the photos. They are in pretty nice shape. There is a little scuffing at the top and bottom edges of the spine, a few teeny tiny tears too. The corners have only light rubbing. The edges look good. The gilt lettering on the spine is bright. So too the gilt design on the front cover where there is also a blind stamped decoration. The book is pretty solidly bound. There is one gathering of ten pages near the end of the book in which one of the five bindings (the one at the very bottom) along the juncture has pulled away a bit. The binding of these pages seems fine as the four other binding spots are intact. A few pages later there is one instance of a slight space off the bottom edge coming up two inches at the juncture between two facing pages where a little bit of webbing is visible. However both facing pages are very solidly bound from top to bottom. The binding between the inside covers and their facing endpapers, both of which have a flowery design, front and rear, is quite solid, no issues. There is a penciled name and address in Massachusetts on the second front end paper, a blank end paper. There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. There is a frontispiece portrait of Rev. E.H. Stokes which is in very good condition and is protected by a tissue guard which is also in very good condition with just a teeny tiny loss at its top corner. There are two light water stains off the edges of the blank second end paper, a bit of it is just barely visible off the bottom edge of the blank verso of the frontispiece. There is no water stain on the frontispiece which is in excellent condition as is the facing title page. There is another water stain off the bottom edge of the other full-page illustration which sits across from the first page of the first chapter, or perhaps I should say first letter. This water stain is also present on the blank verso of the illustration, but it does not continue beyond this page. I turned over all the pages in the book. They are nicely, tightly bound and are exceptionally clean all the way through to page 131 where there is just a tiny spot of soiling off its outer edge that can be seen as well over the next few pages in the same spot, hardly noticeable. The pages then continue perfectly clean all the way through to the final page, page 216. Across from that final page on the blank first rear end paper there is another water stain, and it can also be seen on the next page, the second and last rear end paper, but only on the blank side of it, not on the flowery side that faces the rear inside cover. These illustrated front and rear end papers, front and rear, are very clean. There aren't any conspicuous or sharp creases on any of the pages. I saw an occasional crinkling and a few late pages have a very tiny bottom corner crease. I didn't find any tears or losses on any of the pages. There are no markings and there are no attachments.

Miura: Reflections of a Boy Lover. 9th Beaux Arts Ball. Metropolitan Community Church/MCC. Troy Perry interview. US Marines fear of homosexuality. S.I.R. was an extremely important homophile organization in the 1960s-70s and "Vector" was the main gay magazine for the Bay Area during those years. The magazine began life as a newsletter in 1964, merely several folded and or stapled sheets with news and calendars. The late Sixties found the magazine concentrating more on local and national news of interest to gay men. The final years saw the magazine turn more to a standard gay men's magazine with photos of young men from around the Bay Area.
