Includes Acknowledgments; About the Authors; How to Use this Guide; Preface; Introduction; Appendices: An Introduction to Marine Invertebrates; Plants of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts; Glossary; Bibliography; Credits and Index. Profusely illustrated with color plates, black-and-white maps, and a multi-page section of color photographic frontispieces. "The sea draws us to its shore, whether we know it or not. We are terrestrial creatures by origin and habit, yet spellbound by the mist of sea air and the lulling rhythm of waves upon a beach. It is not impossible to imagine our distant ancestors, men who were hardly men by contemporary standards, standing for the first time upon a beach or rocky headland wondering what was before them - and what was beyond. To this day we do the same. " - short excerpt from the Introduction. 0.

Generically signed and dated upon title page by author, who has also penned an accompanying cryptic illustration/diagram. "The first book to explore the life and work of exuberant and compelling British Columbia artist Godfrey Stephens, whose work reflects nautical, modern and classical influences, along with the formative influence of his boyhood relationship with Kwakwaka'wakw Master Carver Chief Mungo Martin. From towering sculptures likened to abstract totem poles, to psychedelic whirling paintings and sailing vessels crafted without blueprints or tape measures, the breadth and scope of Godfrey's artistic output is staggering.
