It was, in fact, published in 1961 or 1962. Originally published in Street & Smith's Astounding Science Fiction magazine in 1939. This is the fourth in Edward E. Smith's Lensman series. Book is in Very Good Condition: ends of spine and upper edge of boards slightly faded; cover slightly discolored; pages are clean and tight. This is copy 37/500, which is on a tipped-in plate, which also has the author's inscription and signature. The bottom margin of the plate has a linear 1 7/8 in. water stain. 23 chapters; b/w frontispiece; a b/w illustration at the head of each chapter. The top and bottom edges of the cover are faded from shelf wear. The bottom two inches of the boards are faded from having been damp. The binder's glue has caused the endpapers to darken in an uneven manner. The bottom margins of the frontal matter pages are a little wavy. The text block ends have darkened. DJ: The top and bottom edges and the flaps' folds have chips and closed tears, with color loss along most the edges of the damaged spots. Some of the chips may have been caused by an insect. A linear 1 1/4 in. chip takes out the E in Edward on the front panel. Water stain, up to 2 in. high, is on the length of the DJ; it mostly shows on the reverse side. Scans e-mailed upon request.
