No Binding. Condition: Collectible-Fine. Publicity photo (5 x 7 inch) of Sills sitting, b/w, during the 1920s with printed signature. Milton Sills (1882-1930) was a stage and film actor from Chicago. From a wealthy family he first became a professor at the University of Chicago and then in 1905 became a stage actor. Starred in a dozen plays on Broadway between 1908 and 1912. In 1914 he starred in "The Pit" an instant hit and began acting full time in silent films as a freelance actor starring opposite many of the leading actresses of the time including Gloria Swanson. His most famous and successful movie was "The Sea Hawk" (1924). Along with 36 other leading actors of Hollywood he helped found The Academy of Movie Pictures Arts and Sciences in 1927. Sills last silent film was THE SEA WOLF (1930). Tho he made several early talking pictures his career was cut short by a heart attack playing tennis. Sills has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

September 1930 in Santa Barbara, USA) war ein bedeutender US-amerikanischer Stummfilmschauspieler und Universitätsprofessor. Sein relativ früher Tod und sein ungewöhnlicher Werdegang machten ihn zur Legende. Milton Sills wurde 1882 in gutbürgerlichen Verhältnissen in Chicago geboren. Er studierte an der Universität Chicago Philosophie und Psychologie und arbeitete nach Abschluss seines Studiums dort als Professor. Außerdem war recht polyglott: er sprach neben seiner Muttersprache Englisch auch noch Italienisch, Russisch, Französisch und Deutsch fließend. 1906 hängte er seine Stellung als Professor an den Nagel und begann sich als Schauspieler zu verdingen. Bereits 1908 spielte er am Broadway. Sein Filmdebüt gab er 1914 in dem Film ?The Pit? Auch war er einer der Mitbegründer der ?Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences? Sein letzter Film war der Tonfilm ?The Sea-Wolf? im Jahr 1930. Er war ab 1926 mit der Schauspielerin Doris Kenyon verheiratet. Sein Neffe war der weltbekannte Bodybuilder Frederick Sills. Sills starb im Jahr 1930 mit nur 48 Jahren an einem Herzinfarkt beim Tennis.
