Soft Cover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Some corner, edge wear. Pages very good. Bind fine. A study of the nature of man and the progression of humanity exploring the mystery and nature of personal growth. Shaw was integral in developing the school of psychology involving affirmation and self-fulfillment overcoming habit, impulse and social pressure. The new 'third force' school of psychology believes that there is at least one other major source of influence over behavior that cannot be attributed either to environment or heredity. This new concept of affirmation, of self-fulfillment, received much of its impetus from Franklin J. Shaw. His essays and lectures on this concept have been collected and edited posthumously and are now available in this compact volume. They focus upon the problem of man's overcoming 'the impasse. that habit, social pressure, and biological thrust place in his way. It was Shaw's belief that the problems besetting man could be resolved by reconciling the contradictions causing those problems. The papers in this book concern themselves with these processes of reconciliation, of man transcending all manner of bondage. 148 pages. Few bookstore marks. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.
