Condition: Very good plus. First edition of this collection of flowers portrayed as darling babies and children, accompanied by short verses. M. T. "Penny" Ross was a comic artist, primarily known for his work on the sometimes-surreal "Mamma's Angel Child" newspaper comic strip. In THE FLOWER BABIES' BOOK, his style moves fluidly from elegant Edwardian profiles to comedic and expressive Kewpie-esque caricatures. Anna Miller Scott and Ross also worked together on the Volland title A YEAR WITH THE FAIRIES, published in the same year. (This book, published by Rand McNally, nevertheless clearly mimics the popular Volland format.) A lovely, cheerful production. 8.75'' x 5.75''. Original textured cloth-backed color pictorial boards. Patterned endpapers of flower faces. Illustrated in color. 80 pages. Bumping to corners and spine ends, mild soiling to boards. A few tiny spots of soil to leaves. Illustrations vibrant.
