Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. End-papers tanned. Odd small mark/spot of foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Previous owner's gift inscription and date in pen to front end-paper. Pages little tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. The first edition, a scarce copy to be found in any edition.Richly illustrated in text with numerous photographs in black and white by Bryan and Norman Sherwood. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With Elsa Shirley's bookplate to the front pastedown. The cloth is faintly spotted, with a minor damp mark on the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are very clean with only a faint touch of age toning, as usual. Richly illustrated in text with numerous photographs in black and white by Bryan and Norman Sherwood. Very Good Indeed. book.
