Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Russell H. Tandy (illustrator). This is printing 1949A-42, according to the 12th printing of Farah's Guide. 26 Nancys listed to front flap (through "Clue of the Leaning Chimney"), which front flap is coded "7575." Lovely post-war (not acidic wartime) text pages, though this would appear to be the last edition retaining Russell Tandy's cover art of matchstick-leg Nancy in blue suit and reddish brown cloche hat. Frontispiece, by this time, is a line drawing on matte (not glossy) stock. Book with its blue-and-white endpapers is "fine," but we downgrade the intact original jacket to "good" thanks to a brownish triangular tidemark (dampstain) impacting bottom right hand corner of the jacket rear panel and bottom half of jacket spine. Jacket rear panel ad introduces the four-book starter set of the "Brand-New Exciting" Dana Girls Mystery Stories, while jacket rear flap lists 20 Judy Boltons through "Warning on the Window." Third in the series, originally copyright 1930. 204 pp. Reduced from $30.

Others are newly developed for this book. All have met the strict standards of Good Housekeeping's food department. The staff checked and rechecked these recipes, trying several brands of ingredients, eliminating extra steps, using fewer utensils, confirming the cooking times, making sure they are nutritionally sound and, most importantly, that they tasted as good as they looked. The popularity of microwave ovens and an increasing concern with nutritional values have been the major factors to affect cooking since the book was first published. In this revised edition, we have included a chapter of microwave recipes as well as color photographs of microwave techniques and equipment. Each recipe in the book is now accompanied by a calorie count." ; Contents: Before you cook -- Color index -- Appetizers -- Soups -- Eggs -- Cheese -- Shellfish -- Fish -- Meat -- Poultry -- Vegetables -- Fruit -- Salads -- Pasta -- Rice -- Pies -- Desserts -- Ice cream and sherbert -- Cakes -- Cookies -- Candy -- Quick breads -- Yeast breads -- Sandwiches -- Sauces -- Beverages -- Microwave cooking -- Useful information. ; thick, heavy volume ; VG.
