Pamphlet. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Hinges taped, 1/2" spine tail chip, small chips, sun, tone, otherwise light wear. Paperback stapled pamphlet. ; Subtitle on cover: H L Koopman's Yule Gift to his Friends 1890. "Harry Lyman Koopman (1860-1937), [Brown University] librarian from 1893 to 1930, was born in Freeport, Maine, on July 1, 1860. He graduated from Colby College in 1880. In 1881, after a brief teaching experience, he went to work at the Astor Library. In 1883 he became a cataloger at Cornell University, a job he subsequently held at Columbia, Rutgers and the University of Vermont. In 1893 he received a master of arts degree from Harvard and was appointed Librarian of Brown University, a position from which he retired thirty-seven years later. During his tenure, the size of the library grew from 80,000 to 400,000, and the John Hay Library was built in 1910." He later became "president of the American Library Association in 1928". - Martha Mitchell; Encyclopedia Brunoniana. Koopman's first book of poetry was published in 1883. "Koopman published over a dozen collections of verse during his lifetime, an assortment of poetry that included the best and the most regrettable features of the metrical offerings of the period which he embraced." - Carlin T Kindilien; "A Neglected Colby Poet: Harry Lyman Koopman"; Colby Library Quarterly, series 3, no 13, February 1954, page 200-210. Kindilien considers this first Koopman book of the 1890's "an experiment in poetic fantasy reminiscent of J R Drake's imaginative poem of an earlier day ." This unusual keepsake of 1890 was printed in Vermont, while Koopman was still working at the University of Vermont. ; 22 pages.
